Russia stages first symbolic wedding for humanoid robots
Russia has organized its first symbolic wedding ceremony for humanoid robots, drawing widespread attention online and showcasing the growing capabilities of modern robotics.
The unusual event took place at the Pushkin Library in Moscow, where two humanoid robots, Robert and Matilda, were introduced as robot husband and wife during a public ceremony. The event was not a legally recognized marriage but was designed to demonstrate the latest developments in humanoid robot technology.
During the ceremony, the robots exchanged wedding bracelets and vows before being presented as a married couple. A robot dog also participated in the event by delivering the wedding bracelets. Videos from the ceremony quickly spread across social media, showing the robots dancing and interacting with guests.
Robert was developed to represent an office worker and blogger, while Matilda was designed as a ballerina robot. Both had previously been showcased at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum before appearing together at the Moscow event.
The symbolic wedding comes as humanoid robots continue to attract global interest. Advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, sensors, cameras, and robotic engineering have enabled modern robots to perform increasingly complex tasks.
Technology companies around the world are testing humanoid robots in factories, warehouses, hospitals, hotels, and retail stores. Experts believe these machines could play a larger role in daily life and business operations in the coming years.
While the Moscow ceremony was largely a publicity event, it highlighted how quickly robotics technology is evolving. The event has sparked discussion online about the future relationship between humans and intelligent machines as AI-powered robots become more common worldwide.
