ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Sri Lanka’s first squad arrives in Islamabad ahead of the Pakistan T20I series, with the three-match contest scheduled to begin in Rawalpindi on October 9.

The arrival marks the start of Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan, with both teams preparing for a closely watched three-match T20I series.

A 13-member Sri Lankan contingent arrived at Islamabad International Airport and received a warm welcome.

The group includes eight players from Sri Lanka’s T20I squad and five members of the team management. The arrival of the first group comes ahead of the opening match and allows the players and management to settle in before the series begins.

The remaining five members of the Sri Lankan squad are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday. Their arrival will complete the touring party ahead of the three-match series against Pakistan.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka set for three T20Is

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face each other in a three-match T20I series.

The opening match will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9. The second T20I is scheduled for October 11, while the third and final match will take place on October 13.

All three matches will be played at the same venue in Rawalpindi, giving the teams familiar conditions throughout the series. The schedule is expected to provide both sides with an important opportunity to assess their players and combinations in the shortest format.

Rawalpindi to host entire T20I series

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will remain the centre of attention throughout the series as Pakistan and Sri Lanka meet three times within a short period. With matches scheduled on October 9, 11 and 13, the teams will have limited time between games to adjust their playing combinations.

The close schedule could also test the squads’ depth, particularly if players face workload or fitness concerns during the series. For Sri Lanka, arriving in stages means the complete squad will come together shortly before the opening game.

Sri Lanka begins Pakistan tour with T20I focus

The tour allows Sri Lanka to compete in Pakistan and prepare its players for the demands of international T20 cricket. The Sri Lankan players will also have the chance to adjust to local conditions before taking on Pakistan in the opening match.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will look to make the most of home conditions and use the series to strengthen its T20I combination. The three matches are likely to attract considerable attention from cricket fans as the two sides renew their contest in the shortest international format.

Three matches scheduled within five days

The series will move quickly after the opening game.

The first T20I will be played on October 9, followed by the second match on October 11. The final game is scheduled for October 13. This means the two teams will have only a short gap between matches.

Such a schedule can make team selection particularly important, as players and management may need to carefully manage workloads while maintaining a strong combination. Both sides will also have limited opportunities to recover from injuries or make major tactical changes between games.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka rivalry returns in T20 format

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a long history of playing competitive matches across international formats. Their T20I meetings have also produced closely fought contests, making the upcoming series an important assignment for both teams.

With Sri Lanka’s first contingent now in Islamabad, attention will gradually shift towards preparations for the opening match. The arrival also signals that the Pakistan leg of Sri Lanka’s tour is moving into its final preparations.

What to expect from the series

The three-match series could provide opportunities for players looking to establish themselves or strengthen their positions in their respective T20I squads. For Pakistan, playing at home offers the advantage of familiar surroundings and conditions.

Sri Lanka will aim to adapt quickly and make a strong start despite the squad arriving in separate groups. The opening match on October 9 will therefore be important for both sides. A positive start could provide momentum going into the remaining two games.
