Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub ruled out of Australia ODI series as Pakistan face a major setback before the home matches.

Pakistan’s cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming One-Day International series against Australia after Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub were ruled out due to injuries. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), both players are currently recovering under the supervision of the board’s medical team and are continuing their rehabilitation process.

PCB officials said the fitness of both cricketers is being monitored closely, while a fresh update regarding squad selection and player availability will be announced later. The absence of Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub is being seen as a significant blow for Pakistan, as both players were expected to play important roles in the ODI series.

Pakistan are currently finalising preparations for the much-anticipated home series against Australia, which is scheduled to begin on May 30. The first ODI will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second and third matches will take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on June 2 and June 4, respectively.

The series holds added importance as it marks Australia’s first bilateral ODI series in Pakistan since their 2022 tour. The upcoming matches also carry extra excitement after Pakistan earlier completed a 3-0 clean sweep against Australia in the T20I series played earlier this year.

Cricket fans were expecting Fakhar Zaman’s aggressive batting and Saim Ayub’s attacking style to strengthen Pakistan’s top order against the Australian side. The team management may now have to make important changes to the batting combination before the series begins.

Officials have not yet confirmed how long the two players will remain unavailable, but both are continuing treatment and recovery work. The injury setback has increased pressure on Pakistan’s selectors to finalise a balanced squad capable of challenging Australia in home conditions.
