(Web Desk): The Pakistan cricket team suffered a major setback before the ODI series against the West Indies.

National cricket team opener Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the ODI series against the West Indies due to a strained hamstring in his left leg.

Fakhar Zaman sustained the injury while chasing the ball in the outfield in the 19th over of the second T20 match, which led to him being dropped from the final T20 and ODI series.

After an initial medical examination, his injury was classified as a minor strain, to which the team s medical staff provided immediate treatment and first aid.

Fakhar Zaman will return home on the evening of August 4, where he will undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the PCB medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

The left-handed opener has struggled with form in recent matches, scoring 1, 44 and 8 runs in the three matches against Bangladesh, while he scored 28 and 20 runs in the first two T20Is against the West Indies.

This is not the first time that Fakhar Zaman has suffered an injury. Earlier this year, he suffered a rib injury in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which forced him out of the tournament.

In that match, he scored 24 runs off 41 balls despite the pain, and was dismissed by New Zealand s Michael Bracewell.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Event Technical Committee approved the inclusion of Imam-ul-Haq in the Pakistani squad in place of Fakhar Zaman.

It should be remembered that Fakhar Zaman was previously dropped from the squads for the ODI and T20 series against New Zealand in April.
