(Web Desk): Former Indian cricket captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are increasingly unlikely to feature in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, with reports suggesting that both senior players may soon retire from One Day Internationals (ODIs) as well.

According to Indian media, the upcoming ODI series against Australia could serve as a farewell tour for the two stalwarts, after which they might step away from all forms of international cricket. Kohli has already retired from T20 and Test cricket, and there is growing speculation that he will bid farewell to ODIs too.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly focused on building a future team by introducing younger talent. As part of this strategy, both Kohli and Rohit have been asked to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December — a mandatory requirement for players aiming for World Cup selection.

Earlier this year, they were also instructed to play the Ranji Trophy, after which they announced their Test retirements. The October ODI series in Australia is now seen as the potential swan song for the two batting greats.

For Indian cricket fans, the news comes as a major shock. Over the past decade, Kohli and Rohit have been instrumental in India’s success, amassing records and delivering numerous match-winning performances. Their possible departure would mark the end of an era in Indian cricket.
