According to sources, Babar Azam is expected to return for the upcoming tri-series and Asia Cup 2025. Fakhar Zaman was injured during the T20 series against West Indies, due to which he has been ruled out not only of the T20 but also of the ODI series.
The PCB has directed Fakhar Zaman to immediately report to the National Cricket Academy Lahore where he will undergo rehab. His availability for the Asia Cup is uncertain, the board is closely monitoring his injury and rehabilitation process, however, alternative plans are also being developed.

Sources say that if Fakhar is not fully fit, Babar Azam can be included in the squad as a strong candidate. However, Babar Azam s return depends on his performance in the ODI series against the West Indies. If he manages to impress the selectors, his chances of returning to the team will become bright.
Recently, Babar Azam, along with Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah, met PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the second T20 match against the West Indies.
The final squad for the Asia Cup is expected to be announced in the second week of August. The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9 with a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
A total of eight teams have been divided into two groups in the tournament. Pakistan and India have been placed in Group A along with the UAE and Oman, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong.
Pakistan will play their first match against Oman on September 12, while the big clash against arch-rivals India will be on September 14. Their last group match will be against the UAE on September 17.
