(Web Desk): In a weather alert, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts dust and windstorms, thunderstorms in Pakistan from June 11–13.

Authorities have been asked to remain alert as unstable weather conditions approach.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said a western weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country and remain active until June 13. Moist winds from the Arabian Sea are also likely to increase weather activity in upper and central regions.

Rain, thunderstorms and dust storms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and the Galliyat region. Several districts of Punjab are also likely to experience strong winds, rain and isolated hailstorms.

The affected Punjab areas include Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan. Weather officials said these conditions may occur with occasional breaks during the forecast period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to receive widespread rain and thunderstorms. Areas including Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan may be affected.

Similar weather conditions are forecast for several parts of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain, strong winds and hail may occur in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit and nearby areas.

In Balochistan, northeastern districts such as Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Qilla Saifullah, Barkhan and Dera Bugti are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms. Dust storms are also expected in parts of upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Khairpur.

The PMD warned that strong winds, lightning and hail could damage weak structures. Solar panels, electricity poles and billboards may be particularly vulnerable during severe weather.

Officials have also warned of possible urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad. Heavy rainfall in a short period could create water accumulation in low-lying areas.

The weather department further cautioned that landslides may occur in vulnerable mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Residents living near slopes have been advised to remain careful.

Farmers have been urged to manage crops according to changing weather conditions. Tourists and travellers have also been advised to avoid unnecessary journeys during periods of severe weather.

The PMD said all relevant departments should remain “vigilant” and take preventive measures to avoid emergencies. Authorities have been instructed to maintain preparedness and ensure quick response if conditions worsen.

Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority has directed district administrations to keep emergency centres operational around the clock. Departments have also been told to improve coordination and preparedness efforts.

Additional staff and resources are being deployed in high-risk locations. Authorities have also been instructed to share safety information and evacuation plans through electronic and social media platforms.

The Motorway Police have been directed to provide regular travel advisories and road condition updates. Rescue 1122 teams have also been placed on alert with equipment and rescue personnel ready for emergency situations.

The weather system could bring much-needed rain to some areas but may also create serious challenges. Strong winds, hail and heavy downpours can disrupt daily life and damage infrastructure.

Authorities appear to be taking precautions before the system arrives. Public awareness and timely response may help reduce the impact of any severe weather events.
