The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country today, with heavy downpours expected in some regions that could increase the risk of flash floods and urban flooding.

According to the weather department, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are all likely to receive rainfall. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

In Sindh, heavy rain is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and nearby districts. Karachi may also receive light rain or drizzle, which could provide temporary relief from hot and humid weather. However, commuters have been urged to drive carefully as wet roads may lead to traffic disruptions.

The PMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in Dera Ghazi Khan and north-eastern Balochistan. Officials warned that intense showers could trigger a rise in water levels in streams and seasonal nullahs, increasing the possibility of flash flooding in vulnerable locations.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab said river flows are increasing in the province's upper catchment areas due to continuous rainfall. Emergency teams have been placed on alert, and local administrations have been instructed to closely monitor the situation.

Authorities have advised people living near rivers, streams and hilly areas to stay informed through official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Pakistan experiences heavy monsoon rainfall every year, and officials continue to monitor weather systems closely to minimise the impact of flooding and protect lives and property.
