(Web Desk): Murree authorities warn tourists to avoid unnecessary travel as heavy snow and possible blizzards hit the hill station.

Murree Police have issued a 10-point traffic and travel advisory ahead of heavy snowfall and potential blizzard conditions expected in the hill station, urging tourists to avoid non-essential trips.

District Police Officer Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra, said police teams have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety and manage traffic. However, he emphasized that public cooperation will be critical as severe weather is forecast to begin Thursday evening.

The advisory encourages travelers to postpone unnecessary visits and, for those who must travel, to prepare their vehicles for winter conditions. Recommendations include fitting snow chains, keeping fuel tanks full, and carrying emergency supplies in case of delays.

Motorists are advised to use vehicle heaters carefully during prolonged stoppages and to keep windows slightly open to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Drivers are also instructed to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and avoid traveling at night due to slippery roads and poor visibility.

Parking on main roads and steep slopes is strictly prohibited; visitors must use designated parking areas only. Police also stressed the importance of using headlights in foggy conditions while reserving hazard lights for emergencies.

Tourists are urged to follow instructions from traffic wardens, cooperate at checkpoints, and stay updated on weather and road conditions. In case of emergencies, residents and travelers can contact the Police Helpline 15 or Rescue 1122.

Officials warned that the upcoming snow and icy conditions could cause travel disruptions and accidents, urging visitors and locals alike to take precautions to ensure safety. The advisory is part of broader efforts to manage winter tourism and reduce risks during severe weather spells.
