(Web Desk): PDMA KP has issued a weather alert as rain and snowfall are forecast across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January 25 to 27, warning of road risks and landslides.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a weather alert following forecasts of widespread rain and snowfall across the province from January 25 to 27, urging authorities and residents to remain vigilant.

According to PDMA, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has identified a new westerly weather system that is expected to affect most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the three-day period.

Upper districts, including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, and other high-altitude regions, are likely to experience rain and snowfall. In some areas, heavy snowfall is expected, which may result in a sharp drop in temperatures and challenging travel conditions.

Meanwhile, lower and plain areas such as Peshawar, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, and Kohat are forecast to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, raising concerns about urban flooding and traffic disruptions.

The PDMA has warned that ongoing rain and snowfall may lead to slippery roads and possible road closures, particularly in tourist and mountainous regions including Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, and Chitral. Travelers have been advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary journeys.

Additionally, the authority cautioned about an increased risk of landslides and avalanches in upper districts due to continuous precipitation. Relevant departments have been directed to closely monitor vulnerable streams and nullahs in sensitive areas to prevent potential emergencies.

PDMA urged district administrations, rescue services, and the public to stay alert, follow official advisories, and take precautionary measures during the expected adverse weather conditions.
