Citizens across Pakistan may celebrate Eidul Fitr on Saturday, March 21, 2026, following the completion of 30 days of Ramadan 1447 AH, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).
Astronomical calculations indicate that the Shawwal crescent moon will be born on March 19, 2026, at 6:23 AM. However, the moon’s age at sunset on the same day will be approximately 12 hours and 41 minutes, which is generally insufficient for clear visibility. Experts note that due to the moon’s low age and position near the horizon, the crescent may not be visible in most regions of Pakistan on March 19 evening.
Suparco predicts that the crescent will likely be more clearly visible on March 20, 2026, completing 30 days of Ramadan and making March 21 the probable date for Eidul Fitr.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Confirm Eid Date
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Islamabad on March 19 to observe the Shawwal moon. The meeting will be chaired by the committee chairman, with scholars from all schools of thought and representatives of relevant institutions participating.

During the session, testimonies and observational evidence from across Pakistan will be reviewed. The committee remains the only authorized body in the country responsible for declaring the start of Islamic months and the official date of Eidul Fitr.
Officials emphasize that while astronomical predictions provide guidance, the final Eid date in Pakistan will be announced only after confirmed moon sighting reports are reviewed during the committee meeting.
Public Interest in Eid Moon Sighting
Every year, public anticipation for Eidul Fitr peaks in the last ten days of Ramadan. Citizens await the official moon sighting to finalize shopping, travel plans, and festival preparations. If Suparco’s forecast proves correct, Pakistan will observe Eidul Fitr on March 21, 2026, after completing 30 days of fasting.
