Islamabad (Web Desk): NDMA issues nationwide weather alert as heavy rain, storms, and flood risks are expected across Pakistan in the next 12 to 24 hours.

Officials say the current weather situation matches forecasts issued months ago. The authority claims it can predict climate risks in advance and continues to monitor weather patterns both locally and globally.

According to the alert, most parts of the country are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with storms. In northern areas such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, snowfall is also expected.

Experts warn that continuous rain in mountainous regions could increase the risk of glacial lake outbursts. This may lead to sudden flooding in nearby areas, posing a danger to communities.

In Punjab, cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin are likely to experience rain and storms. Areas such as Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Okara are also expected to be affected.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions such as Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Chitral, and Bannu are on alert. Similarly, areas in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, including Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley, may also face severe weather.

In Balochistan, cities such as Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi, Loralai, and Killa Saifullah are expected to receive rainfall with thunderstorms. Sindh regions, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, and Thar, may also see rain and strong winds.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that heavy rainfall may increase water levels in rivers and streams. Low-lying areas could face moderate flooding, while hilly and urban regions may experience flash floods. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and stay updated with official weather advisories.
