Fresh rain and snowfall continued in Gilgit-Baltistan, causing landslides that blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) at several locations between Diamer district and Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Thousands of passengers travelling between Gilgit-Baltistan and other parts of the country were stranded along the highway on Tuesday night. Among those affected were patients, elderly people, and children who could not continue their journeys.
Diamer police reported that debris from landslides blocked the highway at multiple points, from Barseen in Upper Kohistan to Pattan in Lower Kohistan.
According to Diamer Deputy Commissioner Attaur Rehman Kakar, the highway has been closed at various locations in Upper and Lower Kohistan. He added, “Debris removal operations would begin once weather conditions improve, and the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) will carry out the clearance work.”

Police said most areas of Gilgit-Baltistan experienced rainfall over the past two days, while higher-altitude regions received fresh snowfall. Intermittent rain triggered landslides in remote areas, disrupting road links and limiting access between communities.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging passengers to stay safe and avoid travel until the highway is cleared. The combined effects of rain, snowfall, and landslides have made travel extremely risky.
