Heavy rain raises concern as Ravi River water level continues to rise
At Head Balloki, the Ravi River recorded an inflow of 41,790 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 15,740 cusecs, according to the latest irrigation department report.
The report was issued at 6am on August 20. It showed that the upstream water level at Head Balloki had reached 633 feet, while the downstream level was recorded at 619.50 feet.
Water flow continues
According to the irrigation department, 7,050 cusecs of water is being released into the Lower Bari Doab Canal.
The water discharge from Balloki-Sidhnai was recorded at 19,000 cusecs. Officials are closely monitoring the situation as water continues to flow through the river system.
The rising water level has attracted attention because heavy rainfall in different areas can quickly increase water flow in rivers and canals.
Authorities are therefore keeping a close watch on the situation to avoid any major problem in nearby areas.
Islamabad administration on alert
Meanwhile, rain continues in the federal capital, Islamabad. The district administration has kept its emergency arrangements active because of the ongoing weather conditions.
Officials are closely monitoring low-lying areas and drains. The focus is on identifying places where rainwater could collect and cause problems for residents.

Sanitation teams have also been deployed in the field on the instructions of the deputy commissioner.
The teams are working to remove rainwater from affected areas as quickly as possible. Officials are also monitoring drainage points to prevent water from remaining on roads and in residential areas.
What authorities are watching
The main concern is the combined impact of continued rainfall and rising water levels. If heavy rain continues, water flow in rivers and drainage channels could increase further.
For now, authorities are focusing on monitoring rather than announcing any major emergency measures. Field teams remain active and are ready to respond if conditions worsen.
Residents in low-lying areas are being advised to remain careful and follow instructions from local authorities.
