Pakistan’s weather authorities have issued a nationwide alert as heavy rains, strong winds, and hailstorms are expected between April 16 and 18, raising concerns over safety and infrastructure damage.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, several regions including upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience intense rainfall. The department has warned of possible landslides in mountainous areas and increased water flow in streams and rivers.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a broader alert for the period between April 18 and 23. The authority cautioned that rain and hailstorms could impact upper and central Punjab, especially on April 18 and 19.
In Islamabad, heavy downpours have already been recorded in several sectors, signaling the start of the predicted weather system. Experts say the intensity may increase in the coming days.
The NDMA has warned that strong winds and heavy rain could damage weak structures, uproot trees, and disrupt electricity systems. In some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, snowfall is also expected, which may affect travel routes.
