Heatwave to persist as rain forecast for northern Pakistan
Pakistan is expected to remain under the grip of hot and humid weather during the next two days, although rain, windstorms and thunderstorms are forecast for several northern and upper regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The weather department said a weak westerly weather system is affecting the country's upper parts, while a low-pressure area remains active over western Balochistan. These systems are likely to bring isolated showers to some areas, particularly during the evening and nighttime hours.
On Thursday, rain and thunderstorms are expected at a few places in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Similar conditions are likely on Friday, with chances of rainfall extending to northeastern Punjab.
Islamabad and nearby areas are expected to experience hot and humid conditions. However, the PMD has forecast a 35 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms in the capital on Friday evening or night.
Across Punjab, intense heat and muggy weather are likely to continue. On Thursday, isolated rainfall is expected in Khushab, Lahore, Sialkot and Narowal. On Friday, rain may also occur in Murree, Galliyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Kasur and surrounding areas.
