Heatstroke warning issued as Karachi heatwave begins to rise sharply
Medical experts said extreme heat can become dangerous and may even turn life-threatening if people ignore early warning signs. They advised citizens to avoid going out in direct sunlight unless it is necessary.
According to experts, major signs of heatstroke include very high body temperature, headache, dizziness, anxiety and severe weakness. Fainting, fast heartbeat, shortness of breath and hot, dry skin are also among the important symptoms.
If a person shows these signs, they should be moved immediately to a shaded or cool place. Medical help should also be provided without delay.
Experts have advised people to avoid going out in the sun especially from 11 am to 3 pm. They said the sun is strongest during these hours and the risk of heatstroke becomes much higher.
People have also been advised to drink plenty of water, beverages and ORS. This can help prevent dehydration and keep the body cool.
Doctors said wearing loose and light-coloured clothes can also reduce the effects of heat. Children, elderly people and patients need special attention because they can be affected more quickly.

Heatstroke can become serious within a short time. Early action and simple care can make a big difference during very hot days.
