(Web Desk): Floodwaters have inundated villages across Punjab, destroying crops, damaging homes and raising fresh fears as river levels continue to rise.

Flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains has devastated several parts of Punjab, destroying farmland, damaging homes and disrupting transport links as authorities monitor rising river levels across the province.

In Muridke's Khushhal Pura village, overflowing water from the Dek Nullah submerged hundreds of acres of agricultural land, causing extensive damage to rice crops worth millions of rupees. Residents blamed the Irrigation Department, alleging that poor desilting and inadequate maintenance of the water channel allowed floodwater to spill into nearby fields.

Protesters demanded strict action against officials responsible for the alleged negligence and urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to provide immediate financial compensation to flood-affected farmers who have suffered heavy crop losses.

The flood situation has also worsened near Kala Khatai in Narowal, where floodwater reached sections of the railway track after embankments along the Dek Nullah were breached. Vast stretches of farmland have been submerged, with thousands of acres of rice crops underwater. Several link roads have disappeared beneath floodwater, leaving residents struggling to travel and access essential services.

Meanwhile, in Pindi Bhattian, the Chenab River has continued to erode riverbanks, with fast-flowing water damaging homes and agricultural land in the Kacha Gurna area. Local residents have been urged to remain alert as water levels continue to fluctuate.

Further south, water levels at Guddu Barrage on the Indus River in Kashmore have risen significantly. Officials recorded an increase of 65,699 cusecs of water within a single day and warned that river levels are expected to rise further over the next few hours.

Disaster management authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay informed through official updates, avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with local emergency teams as rescue and relief efforts continue.
