According to the Meteorological Department and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advisory, citizens are urged to remain cautious and adopt safety measures.
According to NDMA expert Muhammad Tayyab, a new wave of westerly winds is moving towards Pakistan. When combined with existing monsoon winds, it is expected to significantly intensify rainfall.
He warned that the situation could prove dangerous for Mianwali, Chakwal, Talagang, and Attock, where chances of cloudbursts and flash flooding are particularly high.
The weather department has predicted that rainfall will intensify from August 17 and may continue until August 22.
Authorities have advised residents of low-lying areas to remain on alert, avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and seasonal streams, and strictly follow precautionary measures.
NDMA has also directed district administrations to keep their emergency response plans active, ensuring that rescue and relief operations can be launched immediately in case of any disaster.

Citizens have been asked to avoid non-essential travel during heavy rains and follow official guidelines to minimize risk and prevent major losses.
This alert highlights how vulnerable Punjab’s cities are to extreme monsoon weather. The combination of westerly and easterly winds is a critical meteorological factor, often leading to cloudbursts, sudden downpours, and flash flooding.
If warnings are ignored, the potential for loss of lives, damage to property, and disruption of transport could be severe. On the other hand, timely preparedness and citizen cooperation could significantly reduce the impact of this looming natural threat.
