(Web Desk): Transport fares in Karachi jump up to 30% after petrol price hike, causing disputes between passengers and transporters.

A recent increase in fuel prices has caused a sudden surge in public transport fares across Karachi, creating serious difficulties for daily commuters.

Although the Sindh Transport Department has not issued any official notification regarding fare increases, transporters have raised fares on their own. Reports indicate that fares have gone up by 20 to 30 percent on various routes across the city.

The unexpected hike has led to frequent arguments between passengers and transporters. Many commuters have complained about being overcharged, while transporters defend the increase, saying rising fuel costs have made it difficult to continue operations at old rates.

On most routes, fares have increased by more than Rs20, putting extra financial pressure on workers, students, and office employees who rely on public transport daily. Citizens are demanding immediate government action to regulate fares and protect passengers.

At the same time, the number of vehicles on roads has decreased. Due to higher fuel costs, many buses and minibuses are operating less frequently, causing longer waiting times for commuters.

Experts warn that if fuel prices continue to rise, the transport situation in Karachi could worsen further, affecting millions who depend on affordable travel every day.
