The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has released its forecast regarding the expected sighting of the Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri moon. According to the spokesperson, the new moon is expected to be born on 17 May 2026 at 1:01 am. By the evening of the same day, the age of the moon is likely to be around 18 hours and 30 minutes.

SUPARCO further stated that in Pakistan’s coastal regions, the time gap between sunset and moonset will be approximately 60 minutes. This relatively longer interval, along with clear weather conditions and good visibility, may increase the chances of sighting the crescent on the same evening.

Based on these astronomical calculations, SUPARCO has indicated that the first day of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri is likely to fall on 18 May 2026, which will be observed on Monday. Following this projection, Eid ul Adha is expected to be celebrated on 27 May 2026, Wednesday, across the country.

However, the authority has clarified that these are purely scientific predictions based on astronomical data and do not represent the final official decision. The final announcement regarding the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing testimonies received from across the country. The committee will officially confirm the beginning of the Islamic month based on verified moon sighting reports.
