Sindh to Provide 50,000 Free Electric Scooters to Women Across Province
Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon made the announcement during a ceremony in Mirpurkhas, where Pink Electric Scooties were distributed among women.
Pink Scooty Scheme to Expand Across Sindh
Memon said the programme would gradually be expanded to every district of Sindh, allowing more eligible women to benefit from the initiative.
He said the government was distributing the free electric scooters without political or other discrimination. Eligibility is linked to applicants’ ability to safely operate the vehicles and meet the required criteria.
Driving Test Mandatory for Applicants
Women seeking to receive a scooter must complete the required training and pass the relevant driving test.
Memon clarified that women holding only learner licences are currently not eligible to receive the scooters. Applicants must obtain a permanent driving licence and successfully pass the driving test before qualifying for the scheme.
More Than 50,000 Women Applied
Demand for the programme has continued to increase. In August, the Sindh government reported that more than 50,000 women had applied for electric scooters and related training.
More than 2,000 women had also received driving and related training in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad, while more than 810 scooters had already been distributed free of charge.
The government says the free electric scooters are intended to help women travel more easily for education, employment, and other opportunities.
Priority for Students and Working Women
The Sindh Mass Transit Authority says the wider Pink Scooty programme focuses on improving women’s mobility and access to opportunities.
The registration system gives priority to certain groups, including widows, single mothers, working women, and students. The programme also provides training and assistance related to obtaining learner licences.

Pink Taxis Also Planned
Memon also announced plans to introduce Pink Taxis for women as part of efforts to provide additional safe and independent transportation options.
The minister said the Free electric scooters are exclusively intended for women and warned that action would be taken against men found using the vehicles.
Officials may also conduct inspections to ensure that beneficiaries comply with the conditions of the scheme.
More Women Getting Driving Licences
According to Memon, the number of women obtaining driving licences has increased significantly as more families become willing to allow women to ride motorcycles.
The increase in female licence holders could further expand participation in the Pink Electric Scooty programme as the Sindh government moves toward its target of distributing 50,000 scooters across the province.
