In a historic move, the Punjab government is set to launch its first-ever airline, “Punjab Airline,” with operations scheduled to begin in April this year.
According to official sources, the airline’s inaugural flight will take off in April, marking a significant development in the province’s aviation sector. In the first phase, seven aircraft are being acquired to build the initial fleet. For the first two years, the airline will operate only domestic flights. International routes are expected to be introduced after two years of successful local operations.
Sources further revealed that the Punjab government has decided to make the chief minister’s aircraft financially productive. Instead of purchasing a separate special plane, the chief minister will use aircraft from the Punjab Airline fleet for official travel.
Officials said that whenever the chief minister uses one of the airline’s planes, the fare will be paid, ensuring financial transparency. Additionally, the current official helicopter of the Punjab chief minister will also be incorporated into the airline’s operational structure.

Government insiders stated that the initiative aims to avoid placing an extra financial burden on the national exchequer. Both existing and newly acquired aircraft will be utilized on commercial grounds to generate profit.
The move is being seen as a bold step toward strengthening the provincial aviation sector, improving connectivity, and creating new economic opportunities within Punjab and beyond.
