Punjab seeks mobile, internet restrictions ahead of Sept 27 march
The Punjab Home Department has asked the federal government to limit communications in sensitive areas of Rawalpindi and Attock.
The request reportedly includes downgrading mobile and internet services, while signal jamming has also been sought at some locations in Rawalpindi.
The proposed measures are linked to the expected movement of protesters towards Islamabad on September 27.
However, the restrictions have not been described as a province-wide shutdown. The exact implementation will depend on the federal authorities and the areas covered by any approved measures.
Restrictions requested in Rawalpindi and Attock
According to details reported by local media, the Punjab Home Department has requested mobile and internet restrictions at specific locations along important routes.
In Rawalpindi, areas mentioned in the request include Brahma, Bahtar, Taxila, Wah Saddar and Chakri.
Another report said the request includes 2G, 3G and 4G network jamming at selected points in Rawalpindi, while internet and mobile services in parts of Attock have also been proposed for downgrading.
The requested locations also include several points along major road routes connecting the Rawalpindi region with areas leading towards Islamabad.
The purpose cited for the request is maintaining law and order and managing the expected security situation during the planned political activity.
PTI march drives security preparations
The proposed communication restrictions come as authorities increase security arrangements ahead of the PTI’s announced September 27 long march towards Islamabad.
The party has said the march is linked to its demand for the release of its founder, Imran Khan.
Authorities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock have been preparing for possible movement of protesters over the coming days.
Security officials have been working on arrangements at major roads, entry points and other locations that could be affected by the planned political activity.
Reports also indicate that thousands of security personnel are being prepared for deployment in the federal capital and Attock district.

Rangers requested in four Punjab districts
The mobile and internet request is part of broader security measures being taken in Punjab.
The provincial government has separately requested Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali to assist police with maintaining law and order.
Three Rangers companies have been requested for Rawalpindi, while five wings have been sought for Attock. Jhelum and Mianwali have each been allocated one company under the proposal.
The requested Rangers deployment is for the period from September 22 to October 5.
The proposal was considered by the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Order and has been sent to the federal Interior Ministry for further action.
