In a major step to improve healthcare, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a special cardiac surgery program. The initiative aims to provide free and timely treatment to people suffering from heart diseases.
The program has been introduced under the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department. It is now active in selected public and private hospitals across the province, making services more accessible to patients.
Under this initiative, treatment is being offered in nine public and 15 private cardiac hospitals. This wide network is expected to help more patients receive care without long delays.
The first successful open-heart surgery under the program has already been performed at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, marking an important milestone for the initiative.

An amount of over Rs3 billion has been allocated annually for the program. Officials say the goal is to eliminate long waiting lists for open-heart surgeries within six months.
To make the process easier, a dedicated helpline has been set up. Patients can call 0800-09009 for information and support.
They can also contact 042-99066000 from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm. In addition, guidance is available through WhatsApp at 0333-6756390.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the government is committed to improving healthcare services. She added that the program will ensure free, timely, and quality treatment for thousands of patients across Punjab.
