Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed officials not to collect any down payment from students applying for the Chief Minister’s Electric Bike Scheme.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz, where officials reviewed the scheme and discussed measures to make electric bikes more affordable and accessible for students.

Rs3,000 monthly installment

The meeting agreed on a proposal under which students would pay around Rs3,000 per month for their electric bikes.

The Punjab government will also cover the interest and insurance costs associated with the bikes, reducing the financial burden on students and their families.

Scheme to cover more people

Officials also approved plans to expand the scheme beyond students. Government employees, members of the general public and delivery workers will also be included in the expanded program.

The government aims to make electric transportation available to a wider section of society while encouraging the use of cleaner and more economical vehicles.

Free safety equipment and training

Students receiving electric bikes will also get a helmet and safety rod free of charge. They will receive two days of free training to help them operate the bikes safely.

The government has been directed to take steps to ensure that students receive their bikes within six weeks.

E-bike portal to open soon

Maryam Nawaz also ordered officials to open the electric bike portal within the same week. The removal of the down payment and low monthly installment could make the scheme more attractive to students across Punjab.
