LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has clarified that it has not announced a ban on all tuition centres, rejecting viral social media claims that every academy in the province will be shut down.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the reports circulating online are false. He explained that the government will only take action against unregistered tuition centres that fail to obtain the required fitness certificate.

Punjab rejects viral claims

The clarification came after a social media graphic claimed that the minister had ordered the closure of all tuition centres operating in residential areas.

The claim appeared after last month’s tragic roof collapse at a tuition academy in Lahore, where 14 children lost their lives.

However, the minister said no decision has been made to close all tuition centres across Punjab.

Action only against unregistered tuition centres

Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government’s decision only applies to unregistered tuition centres that continue operating without a mandatory fitness certificate.

He announced that unregistered tuition centres failing to meet legal requirements will be closed from September.

The minister added that obtaining registration and fitness approval is necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Province-wide survey underway

The minister said the registration of tuition academies falls under the authority of the relevant deputy commissioners.

He confirmed that a province-wide survey is currently being carried out to identify registered and unregistered tuition centres across Punjab.

Officials said the survey will help authorities ensure all academies comply with safety standards and legal requirements.

Government dismisses misinformation

The minister’s Public Relations Officer, Noor-ul-Huda, also rejected the viral reports, saying the Punjab government has never announced the closure of all tuition centres.

Officials urged the public to rely only on official government statements and avoid sharing unverified information circulating on social media.
