Punjab announces new electric buses for 14 districts
The Punjab government has announced that new electric buses will begin operating in 14 districts by the end of July 2026. The initiative is part of the government’s plan to provide cleaner, safer, and more modern public transport services across the province.
According to the plan, Chiniot, Layyah, Okara, and Sialkot will each receive 10 electric buses. Lahore, Gujranwala, and Multan will each receive 12 new electric buses to improve public transport facilities for commuters.
The government also said that Murree, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Vehari, Kasur, Lodhran, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal will each receive 11 electric buses before the end of the month.
In another major development, the Punjab government announced that 488 additional electric buses are expected to arrive in Pakistan by the end of August 2026. These buses will be deployed in various districts to further expand and strengthen the province’s electric public transport network.

Officials said the expansion aims to reduce pollution, improve travel facilities, and encourage people to use environmentally friendly public transport. The government added that billions of rupees have been allocated under the Annual Development Program (ADP) to develop modern transport infrastructure and improve public transport services across Punjab.
Authorities believe the new fleet will make daily travel easier for thousands of passengers while supporting the province’s long-term environmental and urban development goals.
