ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid tribute to workers on International Labour Day and called for stronger protection of labour rights across Pakistan.

In separate messages, both leaders urged industrialists, businesses, and relevant institutions to ensure dignity, fair treatment, and better opportunities for workers. President Zardari said a nation that protects its workers also protects its future. He stressed that empowering labourers is essential for long-term national progress and stability.

He said Pakistan remains committed to international labour standards and basic workplace rights, including fair wages, social security, and equal treatment for workers. The president also highlighted the importance of eliminating forced labour, child labour, and discrimination in workplaces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised workers in Pakistan and around the world, especially the country’s hardworking labour force. He said labourers play a key role in keeping society functioning and deserve the highest level of respect and recognition.

The prime minister added that skilled workers and labourers, both inside Pakistan and abroad, represent the country’s talent, dedication, and professional strength. He particularly appreciated overseas Pakistanis, calling them ambassadors of Pakistan who continue to support the national economy through their hard work.

Shehbaz Sharif said remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis are helping strengthen the country’s economic stability during difficult times. He added that the government is taking special measures to improve professional training and skill development so workers can secure better employment opportunities in Pakistan and abroad.

The Labour Day messages come at a time when discussions about workers’ rights, wages, and employment conditions are increasing across the country. Experts believe better protection, training, and support for workers can help improve Pakistan’s economy and create a stronger workforce for the future.
