PM Apna Ghar opens for overseas Pakistanis
The government of Pakistan has expanded the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar housing finance program to include overseas Pakistanis in a major move aimed at widening access to affordable housing.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division.
Under the revised framework, the government approved measures to expand housing finance outreach and bring more investors and institutions into the program. Officials said the updated structure includes institutional financing, public-private partnerships, and participation of non-banking financial institutions.
For the first time, overseas Pakistanis will also be formally included in the housing finance initiative. Authorities believe their participation can help increase investment flows and support the program’s broader national targets.
Officials said the expansion is designed to improve access to housing loans for families seeking affordable homes while also accelerating progress on Pakistan’s housing goals.
The revised framework is expected to widen the financing base by attracting a broader range of financial institutions and private sector partners. Policymakers believe the move could strengthen the housing sector, create economic activity and open new opportunities in construction and related industries.
The Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar program was launched to make home ownership more accessible for low and middle-income households. With the latest expansion, the government hopes overseas Pakistanis will play a stronger role in supporting affordable housing development across the country.
