PM announces National Agricultural Policy to drive Pakistan Agriculture reforms
The decision is part of wider Pakistan agriculture reforms aimed at improving crop production, supporting farmers, and strengthening the country’s agricultural economy.
The directive was issued during a meeting on the reorganisation of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
Officials discussed several proposals under the ongoing Pakistan agriculture reforms, with a strong focus on technology, research, and farmer support.
Agriculture Innovation and Growth Plan to be monitored
The prime minister also ordered the creation of an apex forum to oversee the Agriculture Innovation and Growth Plan.
The forum will meet every month to review progress and ensure the Agriculture Innovation and Growth Plan is implemented effectively across the country.
Officials said the new body will improve coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
The Agriculture Innovation and Growth Plan is expected to introduce modern farming practices and improve agricultural productivity.
Zarkhez-e Agricultural Loan Programme to help farmers
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to launch a nationwide awareness campaign for the Zarkhez-e Agricultural Loan Programme.
The campaign aims to ensure that more farmers understand the benefits of the Zarkhez-e Agricultural Loan Programme and can easily apply for financial assistance.

Officials also said the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited will support agricultural loans Pakistan, making it easier for farmers to access affordable financing. Expanding agricultural loans Pakistan remains one of the government's key priorities.
Pakistan Agricultural Research Council to play bigger role
The prime minister said the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council should be transformed into a leading research institution.
According to officials, the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council will focus on developing better seeds, promoting modern farming methods, and improving crop yields through scientific research.
An artificial intelligence-based application is also being developed to help farmers detect pests and control crop diseases. The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council is expected to play an important role in supporting these innovations.

More agriculture reforms under way
Officials informed the meeting that the National Seed Policy and the National Agriculture Biotechnology Policy have already been approved.
Consultations on the Pakistan National Olive Value Chain Policy have also been completed, while work continues on a national wheat policy and several livestock-related policies as part of ongoing Pakistan agriculture reforms.
The meeting was also told that multi-grain flour is being prepared on a pilot basis at the National Agricultural Research Centre.
