Govt launches pink Taxi scheme for women
The new Sindh Pink Taxi Scheme comes after the positive response to the Pink Scooty Scheme, which encouraged thousands of women to start driving.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Pink Taxi Scheme is designed to provide women with safe, reliable, and affordable transport while promoting greater independence and empowerment across the province.
Pink Taxi Scheme to be part of EV project
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, the minister said the Sindh Pink Taxi Scheme will be introduced under the government’s electric vehicle (EV) taxi programme.
He added that the Pink Taxi Scheme is one of several initiatives aimed at improving women’s welfare. The government is expected to announce more details about the project in the coming weeks.
Government warns against misuse of Pink Scooties
Sharjeel Memon also said strict action will be taken against any man found using a scooter provided under the Pink Scooty Scheme.
He explained that the government had received complaints that some women’s family members, especially brothers, were using scooters issued in women’s names.
Authorities have now been instructed to prevent misuse of the Pink Scooty Scheme so that only eligible women benefit from it.

More women applying for driving licences
The minister said the Pink Scooty Scheme has significantly increased the number of women applying for driving licences.
According to him, only 150 women held driving licences when the programme began. Today, more than 25,000 women have submitted applications.
He added that the government aims to help 100,000 women obtain driving licences in the coming years.
Under the Sindh Pink Taxi Scheme, the government also hopes to create safer transport opportunities while encouraging more women to become financially independent.
