Petrol price in Pakistan nears Rs400 mark
Another increase at the pump
Petrol became costlier again on October 8, rising by Rs1.82 to Rs396.65 per litre, according to the latest Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) notification. The hike leaves the fuel just short of Rs400 and extends a run of frequent upward revisions that began at the start of the month.
A week of rising rates
Petrol was priced at Rs387.40 per litre on October 1. It then moved to Rs390.66 on October 2, Rs392.76 on October 3, Rs393.64 on October 6 and Rs394.83 on October 7. In total, motorists now pay roughly Rs9 more per litre than they did a week ago.
Diesel moves the other way
High-speed diesel has followed a different path. It fell from Rs400.35 on October 1 to Rs394.94 on October 8, offering some relief to transporters, farmers and goods carriers. Petrol now costs more than diesel.

What drives the changes
Officials say the revisions reflect international fuel prices, including Platts benchmarks and premiums, along with related costs. Reports note that petrol prices are closely tied to transport and logistics expenses, so even small increases can gradually raise the cost of goods and services. Commuters who rely on cars, motorbikes and rickshaws are likely to feel the pinch first, and public transport fares may edge up as well. Consumers are advised to revise their monthly fuel budgets as further notifications arrive. The frequent revisions have made planning harder for households and small businesses. Transporters are watching whether diesel keeps easing, since freight and food distribution costs often follow fuel trends. Further OGRA notifications are expected in the coming days.
