Peshawar imposes Section 144 ahead of August 14
The Peshawar district administration has imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 14. The restrictions aim to maintain law and order and prevent activities that could endanger public safety during the celebrations.
According to a notification issued by the district administration, Section 144 will remain in force in Peshawar until August 15. The order covers several activities considered potentially dangerous or disruptive during Independence Day celebrations.
Aerial firing and one-wheeling are banned
Under the restrictions, aerial firing and one-wheeling have been completely banned in the city. The administration has also prohibited fireworks as part of measures to prevent accidents and maintain public safety.
One-wheeling, particularly among young motorcyclists, can lead to serious accidents and put both riders and other road users at risk. The administration has therefore urged young people to avoid such activities during Independence Day celebrations.
Toy guns and vuvuzelas are also prohibited
The restrictions go beyond dangerous motorcycle stunts and fireworks. The district administration has also prohibited the sale and purchase of toy pistols and toy horns, commonly known as vuvuzelas. The sale and purchase of firecrackers have also been banned under the order.
Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against people who violate the restrictions. The measures are intended to prevent incidents that could disturb public order or create safety risks during the celebrations.
Restrictions to remain in force until August 15
The Section 144 order will remain effective until August 15, covering both Independence Day and the following day. This gives authorities additional time to manage public gatherings and activities linked to the celebrations.
Citizens have been advised to cooperate with the administration and follow the restrictions during this period. Authorities are expected to monitor public spaces and take action against violations.
Administration urges youth to stay safe
The district administration has specifically appealed to young people to avoid one-wheeling on August 14. Officials said the restrictions have been introduced to protect the lives and property of citizens.
