Pakistan to install smart scanners at major airports
Smart scanners to replace outdated checks
The prime minister issued the directions while chairing a meeting on customs operations in Islamabad on Saturday. He instructed authorities to arrange the immediate air shipment of scanners and install them at international airports across Pakistan.
The move aims to reduce delays and make baggage inspections more convenient for travellers. Sharif also directed customs officials to avoid unnecessary questioning and rely more on automated inspection systems.
He stressed that passenger comfort must remain a priority. He said travellers should not face harassment during airport checks.
Airport staff to receive better training
The prime minister also called for airport staff to receive training according to international standards. He said courtesy and respect should be important parts of their training.
The new instructions are intended to improve the experience of passengers travelling through Pakistan’s international airports.
However, the effectiveness of the changes will depend on how quickly the scanners are installed and how well staff follow the new instructions.
