Islamabad road projects get deadline as Mohsin Naqvi orders faster work
Deadline for Two Road Projects
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to complete the Margalla Road extension to the motorway and the Sangjani Interchange projects by December 31. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry joined him on a visit to both sites to review construction progress.
During the visit, Naqvi instructed officials to accelerate development work and continue construction in double shifts. He stressed that both projects must be completed by the deadline.
Encroachments and Construction Delays Targeted
Naqvi directed the Islamabad deputy commissioner to remove all encroachments within one week. He also ordered officials to resolve obstacles that could slow down construction.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials briefed the ministers on the progress and main features of both projects. The visit was aimed at reviewing the work and ensuring that construction stays on schedule.
Margalla Road Extension to Improve Motorway Access
The Margalla Road extension towards Sangjani Interchange covers 2.7 kilometres and includes an underpass and an interchange. Once completed, it will provide Islamabad residents with another route to reach the motorway.
The new road connection is expected to improve links between the capital and the motorway network. It may also give commuters another travel option and help improve traffic movement in the area.
CDA Officials Review Development Work
The CDA chairman, Islamabad deputy commissioner and other relevant officials also attended the site visit. They provided updates on the projects and the work required to meet the completion deadline.
The authorities are now expected to maintain the faster pace of construction and address any remaining hurdles. Meeting the December 31 deadline will depend on how quickly the outstanding work is completed.
The two projects could improve motorway access for Islamabad residents and provide an alternative route for commuters. However, their benefits will depend on timely completion and proper traffic management after the roads open.
The order to remove encroachments and work in double shifts shows that the authorities are under pressure to meet the deadline. Progress at the construction sites will determine whether both projects are completed on time.
