Pakistan launches International Ship Refueling at Gwadar Port
The milestone marks a major step towards turning Gwadar Port into a leading regional maritime and energy hub.
The first international ship bunkering operation was carried out jointly by NLC Gwadar Port and Vitol Pakistan.
During the operation, the LNG carrier ENUGU received 2,500 metric tonnes of VLSFO fuel, making it the first successful Pakistan ship refueling service at Gwadar Port.
Officials said the supplied VLSFO fuel meets the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental standards.
The fuel was produced locally by Cnergyico PK Limited, while NLC Gwadar Port and Vitol Pakistan completed the operation successfully, highlighting Pakistan’s growing capabilities in international ship bunkering.
The launch of commercial Gwadar bunkering services is expected to attract more international vessels travelling through the Arabian Sea and Gulf shipping routes.
Experts believe Pakistan ship refueling facilities will provide ship operators with a faster and more competitive option while strengthening Gwadar bunkering services.
According to maritime experts, increasing regional shipping activity has created strong demand for alternative international ship bunkering locations.

Because of its strategic location, Gwadar Port is well positioned to benefit, while NLC Gwadar Port continues expanding modern port services with support from Vitol Pakistan.
Officials said the new Gwadar bunkering service will help strengthen Pakistan’s Blue Economy by increasing marine fuel sales, logistics, port operations and foreign exchange earnings.
The use of internationally approved VLSFO fuel is also expected to improve confidence among global shipping companies using the port.
The initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to expand commercial operations under CPEC and establish Gwadar as a regional trade and logistics hub.
Authorities believe continued investment in Gwadar bunkering, reliable Pakistan ship refueling services and quality VLSFO fuel will attract more global shipping traffic in the future.
