The Government of Pakistan has announced a major work from home policy for federal offices as part of its austerity drive to tackle the ongoing energy crisis. Under the new policy, government offices will operate on a 4-day workweek, combining in-office and remote work to reduce operational costs and energy consumption.
The decision reflects urgent measures to manage rising fuel prices and increasing pressure on national energy resources.

According to official sources, federal offices will now remain open:
- Monday to Thursday
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be off
However, essential sectors such as:
- Banks
- Hospitals

Why the Decision Was Taken

These factors have significantly contributed to the country’s energy crisis, prompting immediate cost-cutting and conservation measures.
Immediate Implementation Across Ministries
Sources confirm that preparations for implementing the work from home system have been completed, and the policy is being rolled out across key ministries and departments with immediate effect.
The government aims to ensure a smooth transition without disrupting administrative efficiency.
Expected Benefits of Work From Home Policy
Authorities believe the initiative will:
- Reduce electricity consumption in offices
- Cut fuel usage for commuting
- Lower operational expenses
- Promote efficient resource utilization
This policy marks a significant step toward sustainable governance and digital transformation in Pakistan.
