Over 2.1 million smart electricity meters installed across Pakistan
More than 2.1 million smart electricity meters have been installed across Pakistan’s power distribution companies, according to a written reply submitted by the Ministry of Energy to the Senate.
The ministry reported that a total of 2,125,296 smart meters have been installed across the country’s power distribution network.
The figures show that the rollout has reached major electricity distribution companies, although the number of installations varies significantly across regions. The data was provided in response to a question in the Senate about the progress of smart meter installations across Pakistan.
LESCO records highest number of installations
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has recorded the highest number of smart meter installations among the distribution companies.
LESCO has installed 1,153,556 smart meters, accounting for more than half of the total installations reported nationwide.
The figure puts LESCO well ahead of other power distribution companies in terms of smart meter deployment. It also highlights the significant difference in installation levels between LESCO and several other distribution companies.
GEPCO and MEPCO follow LESCO
The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has installed 348,135 smart meters.
It is followed by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), which has installed 229,719 smart meters.
The two companies have recorded the highest installation figures after LESCO. Their figures show that smart meter deployment is also progressing in other major regions of the country.
IESCO and FESCO cross 100,000
The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has installed 119,372 smart meters.
The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has installed 111,948 meters.
Both companies have crossed the 100,000 mark, placing them among the distribution companies with relatively higher levels of smart meter deployment. The installations add to the growing number of consumers being connected through smart metering systems.
PESCO and K-Electric expand rollout
The Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) has installed 60,685 smart meters, according to the ministry’s figures.
K-Electric has installed 50,599 smart meters.

Their installation figures are lower than those of LESCO, GEPCO and MEPCO but still represent thousands of smart meters across their respective service areas. The figures show that the rollout is continuing across different parts of Pakistan.
HESCO and SEPCO report lower numbers
The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has installed 19,620 smart meters.
The Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has installed 13,432 smart meters.
Their installation figures remain considerably lower than those reported by the country’s largest distribution companies. The data highlights the different pace of smart meter deployment among power distribution companies.
QESCO, HAZECO and TESCO have fewer installations
The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has installed 9,194 smart meters.
The Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) has installed 7,659 meters.
The Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) has recorded the lowest number of installations, with 1,377 smart meters. The figures suggest that smart meter deployment remains at an earlier stage in some areas compared with larger distribution networks.

Smart electricity meters can provide more detailed information about electricity consumption and allow meter data to be collected more efficiently. They can also help power companies monitor electricity use and manage their distribution systems more effectively.
For consumers, smart meters can provide more accurate information about electricity consumption when the technology and supporting systems are properly implemented. The wider rollout is therefore part of efforts to improve electricity monitoring and efficiency across the power sector.
