The federal government has officially announced two public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
The notification confirmed that March 20 and March 21, 2026 will be observed as Eid holidays for government offices and institutions throughout the country.
However, many employees may still enjoy a longer break. March 22 falls on Sunday, which is already a weekly holiday for most offices. March 23 is also a national holiday celebrated as Pakistan Day.

Because of this, several government offices are likely to remain closed for four consecutive days.
According to the official notification, “In continuation of the Cabinet Division’s circular dated January 19, 2026, specifying public and optional holidays for the year 2026, the Prime Minister has been pleased to declare March 20 and 21, 2026 (Friday and Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr for offices observing both five- and six-day working weeks.”
Experts have also shared their prediction regarding the expected date of Eidul Fitr.
They believe that Eidul Fitr may fall on March 21 this year as Pakistan is likely to complete 30 days of the holy month of ramazan.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission provided details about the moon sighting.
In a statement, the space agency said the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to be born on March 19, 2026 at 6:23 am Pakistan Standard Time.

If these predictions remain accurate, Eid celebrations could begin the next day, bringing relief and joy to millions of Muslims across the country.
The announcement of only two Eid holidays has surprised some people who expected a longer official break. However, the combination of weekend and Pakistan Day may still give many workers extra time off. Much will also depend on the final moon sighting, which could slightly change the holiday schedule.
