ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal visited PIMS and inspected its cardiac centre, reviewing facilities and raising concerns over maintenance and staff performance.

During his visit, Kamal inspected the electrophysiology catheterisation laboratory and asked about the difficulties faced by patients and the facilities available to them.

The health minister also visited the private rooms at the PIMS cardiac centre and expressed anger over their poor condition. He pointed out the damaged walls and questioned why they were only being painted instead of properly repaired.

“The condition of the wall is poor and you are painting it. One day this wall will collapse and then we will all come here,” Kamal said.

Minister demands immediate action

Kamal told PIMS Executive Director Dr Salman that the administration would not have six months to understand the hospital’s problems.

“You will not get six months to understand the hospital. You have to start working immediately. If you do not check the hospital’s maintenance every day, then what is the point?” he asked.

The minister also directed the administration to remove employees who were not performing their duties.

“Remove anyone immediately who is not doing their job,” Kamal said.

He made it clear that employees should not be protected because of their connections with influential people. He said the administration should take action against anyone failing to perform their responsibilities.

“Whoever someone may belong to, if they are not working, remove them. No one will come from outside and do the work. The administration should take action, and I will remove them,” he said.

Kamal asks officials to identify poor performers

The health minister questioned why he had not received any report identifying employees who were not doing their jobs.

“I have not received a single page telling me that someone is not working. If someone is not working, remove 10 people every day,” Kamal said.

His remarks came as he called for stronger accountability and regular monitoring within the hospital.

The minister stressed that hospital officials should not wait for senior authorities to identify problems. Instead, he said the administration should monitor employees and take action where necessary.

PIMS administration raises centralised power issue

During the visit, the PIMS administration also raised concerns about the distribution of administrative authority.

Officials told the health minister that power at the hospital was centralised, with administrative authority concentrated in the hands of one person.

Kamal responded by asking the administration to submit a written proposal for changing the system.

“Give it to me in writing and we will distribute the powers. Write on one page what the model should be,” he said.

The minister’s visit focused on the condition of hospital facilities, staff performance and the administrative system at PIMS.
