Murree introduces special winter safety plan as snowfall season begins
The district administration has launched ‘Mission Safe Winter’ to protect visitors during the Murree snowfall season. The initiative was prepared with support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Rescue 1122 after the first snowfall in the Galiyat region.
Thousands of people visit the hill station every year to enjoy Murree tourism during winter. However, heavy snow can block roads, cause traffic problems and create emergency situations. The new arrangements aim to make travel safer and provide quick assistance to visitors.
19 tourist facilitation centres established
Under the Murree winter safety plan, 19 tourist facilitation centres have been established across Murree, Galiyat and major connecting routes.
These tourist facilitation centres will help visitors travelling from Rawalpindi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Tourists will be able to seek guidance and assistance during emergencies.
Authorities have also installed 181 Safe City cameras to monitor roads, entry points and other important locations. Thermal drones will support surveillance, while a special Pakistan Army contingent will assist with round-the-clock monitoring.
The Mission Safe Winter initiative will use these arrangements to improve security and keep an eye on important routes during the busy season.
Strict action against overcharging
The administration has also announced measures to protect tourists from excessive prices.
The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) will inspect hotels and petrol stations to check overcharging. Officials will also monitor transport fares and food prices to ensure businesses follow approved rates.
These steps are intended to make Murree tourism more affordable and prevent visitors from facing unexpected expenses during their trips.

Emergency services and road clearance
Hospitals have been directed to ensure the availability of doctors and medicines 24 hours a day. Rescue 1122 has also made new emergency stations operational to respond quickly to accidents and other incidents.
More than 20 snow-clearing vehicles, cranes and loaders have been positioned at important locations. These snow-clearing vehicles will help remove snow and keep roads open during heavy snowfall.
The administration has also proposed an air ambulance landing strip along the Murree Expressway. If developed, it could support emergency rescue operations and help transport seriously injured people.
Officials expect these arrangements to play an important role in managing the Murree snowfall season. The snow-clearing vehicles will be especially important when heavy snow makes roads difficult to use.
Winter tourism season dates announced
According to the administration, the official Murree tourism season will run from December 15 to February 15.
Authorities are preparing for a large number of visitors during this period. The Mission Safe Winter plan is designed to improve emergency response, road access and tourist support.
Visitors are advised to follow safety instructions and cooperate with officials, particularly during heavy snowfall and difficult road conditions.
