Motorway Police bans officers from asking for lifts on highways
The Motorway Police has taken an important administrative decision banning uniformed personnel from asking for lifts on motorways and national highways.
According to an official circular issued by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Motorway Police Imran Shahid, all personnel, including staff deployed at toll plazas, are strictly prohibited from stopping vehicles to request lifts under any circumstances.
The directive has been circulated to senior officials including the CCPO Lahore, Rescue 1122, PTC Farooqabad, and other relevant departments for immediate implementation.
Officials stated that such practices were negatively affecting the reputation of Motorway M-2 and other national highways, while also creating an unfavorable impression among local and international travelers.
The circular emphasized that the presence of law enforcement personnel on motorways must be strictly limited to official duties, including patrolling, traffic regulation, and enforcement of laws.
Authorities warned that any violation of the new instructions will result in strict departmental action against the responsible individuals.
The decision is part of broader efforts to improve discipline, enhance institutional image, and ensure professionalism within highway law enforcement agencies.
Officials believe the move will help restore public confidence and maintain a more structured and professional environment on national highways.
Motorway Police has urged all concerned departments to ensure compliance with the new rules without exception.
