Monsoon death toll rises to 43 as rains wreak havoc in Punjab, KP

According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 21 people have died and 154 others have been injured in weather-related incidents across the province during the current monsoon season.

The PDMA said two people died after being struck by lightning, 15 were killed in building collapses, three lost their lives due to electrocution and one person drowned. The authority added that no deaths have been reported among people swept away or stranded in floodwaters. Heavy rains have also partially damaged 38 houses, while one livestock animal was killed.

PDMA Director General warned that urban flooding and flash floods remain a serious threat as monsoon rains continue across Punjab. People have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported 22 deaths and 23 injuries in separate rain-related incidents caused by collapsing roofs and walls, as well as flash floods.

The victims included nine men, 10 children and three women. Among the injured were 11 men, five women and seven children. Officials said 37 houses were damaged by heavy rains across the province. Of these, eight were completely destroyed, while 29 suffered partial damage.

The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank, Torghar, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan.

Authorities have urged people to follow weather advisories, avoid flooded areas and take precautionary measures as more rain is expected in the coming days.
