Major fuel price cut likely today, hints PM Shehbaz
Shehbaz Sharif has indicated that petrol and other petroleum product prices may be reduced significantly as global oil prices continue to decline, raising hopes of relief for millions of consumers across Pakistan.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said international oil prices were falling rapidly and could decline further in the coming days. He stated that the government would announce weekly petroleum prices today and that the new rates would include “significant relief” for the public.
Shehbaz Sharif said the government was closely monitoring developments in global energy markets and was committed to passing on the benefits of lower international oil prices to consumers. The prime minister also appreciated the role of all provincial chief ministers, saying they had contributed to efforts aimed at providing relief to the public. He stressed that national unity remained strong despite political differences.

During his speech, PM Shehbaz described the Islamabad Memorandum as a major diplomatic achievement. He said recent diplomatic developments had enhanced Pakistan’s image and earned the country greater recognition and respect at the international level. He congratulated the nation on what he described as a historic moment and urged parliamentarians to adopt a unanimous resolution. According to the prime minister, such a move would send a strong message of unity, harmony, and national cohesion to the world.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan had gained honour and recognition through recent achievements and noted that such moments of national prestige come rarely. He added that the country’s name was being discussed positively around the world.
The prime minister also called on both the government and the opposition to rise above political differences when it comes to matters of national importance. He said serving the country and protecting national interests should remain a shared objective for all political forces. He emphasised that unity on key national issues would further strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic standing and enhance its image globally.
