LPG prices soar in Lahore as consumers pay far above official rate
LPG prices in Lahore have surged well above the official rate, forcing consumers to pay up to Rs500 per kilogram in several parts of the city.
According to reports, the government has fixed the official LPG price at Rs300 per kilogram. However, consumers in various areas of Lahore say the fuel is being sold in the open market for between Rs450 and Rs500 per kilogram.
The sharp difference between the official and market rates has increased concerns among residents, many of whom depend on LPG for cooking and other household needs. Citizens say the continued rise in prices is making it increasingly difficult to manage monthly expenses.
Consumers have also complained that LPG prices are increasing almost daily, with reports suggesting hikes of Rs10 to Rs20 per kilogram in some areas. The situation has added to the financial burden already created by rising costs of fuel, electricity, and other essential commodities.
Residents argue that the problem has become more serious because natural gas supply remains inconsistent in many neighborhoods. As a result, families are forced to rely on LPG despite its high cost.
Citizens have urged the district administration and relevant authorities to ensure that LPG is sold at government-approved rates and to take action against profiteering and illegal overcharging.
Market observers warn that if the trend continues, more households could face difficulties meeting their energy needs. They stress the importance of stronger monitoring and enforcement measures to protect consumers from excessive price increases.
The growing gap between official and market prices has once again highlighted concerns about fuel affordability and market regulation in Pakistan.
