Lesco launches crackdown on dangerous double source power connections
The chief executive officer of Lahore Electric Supply Company has directed officials to remove all double source electricity connections within one week across Lahore and surrounding areas.
According to Lesco authorities, the crackdown will target both government residences and private housing societies using unauthorized double source power connections. Officials warned that such connections pose serious safety risks and can lead to fatal electrical accidents.
The strict action follows a recent incident in Lahore’s Mustafa Abad area, where a lineman reportedly suffered a deadly accident linked to a double source connection. Following the tragedy, Lesco management issued strong warnings to field officers and supervisory staff.
Officials stated that if any future accident occurs due to illegal double source connections, the concerned executive engineer (XEN) and sub-divisional officer (SDO) will face dismissal from service.
Lesco authorities clarified that no individual, regardless of rank or influence, will be allowed to use double source electricity systems illegally. However, a limited exemption has been granted to critical state institutions operating on independent feeders.
According to officials, only hospitals, the Governor House, and the Chief Minister House are permitted to maintain approved double source arrangements due to emergency operational requirements.
Power distribution experts say double source systems can create severe technical complications during maintenance work, increasing the risk of electrocution for field staff. Authorities believe the latest operation will help improve workplace safety and reduce life-threatening incidents involving electricity workers.
