LAHORE (Web Desk): Three members of a family were killed when a 22-wheeler trailer crashed into their car on Allama Iqbal Road in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu area. Police have launched an investigation into the fatal accident and are taking steps to identify those responsible.

Three members of the same family, including a woman and a child, were killed when a heavy trailer struck their car on Allama Iqbal Road in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu area.

The victims were identified as Muhammad Asim, his wife, Huma Asim, and their son, Talha Asim. According to media reports, the family belonged to the Shah Jamal neighbourhood in Lahore’s Ichhra area.

The collision left the car trapped beneath the heavy vehicle. The force of the impact badly damaged the car and trapped its occupants inside. Rescue 1122 teams and police personnel rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Rescue workers cut through wreckage to recover bodies

Rescue workers faced a difficult task as the car was trapped beneath the trailer following the collision.

According to reports, rescuers had to cut through the wreckage to recover the bodies of the three victims. The bodies were subsequently shifted to hospital for the required legal and medical procedures.

Police officials also arrived at the scene to oversee the response and begin an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of motorists travelling alongside heavy vehicles on busy city roads.

Police register case after family’s complaint

Police registered a case following a complaint filed by Muhammad bin Asim, the surviving son of the victims, according to published reports.

The complaint stated that the trailer struck the family’s car from behind. The police report alleged that the trailer driver was driving recklessly at the time of the collision. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the accident to establish how it occurred and determine who was responsible.

Reports published after the crash said the trailer driver and other crew members had left the scene. Police were reportedly taking steps to trace those involved. The exact sequence of events and any further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Heavy vehicles raise road safety concerns

The fatal collision has renewed concerns about the risks posed by heavy vehicles on Lahore’s roads, particularly when drivers fail to follow traffic rules.

Large trailers and trucks can cause severe damage when they collide with smaller vehicles because of their size and weight. Drivers must maintain safe speeds, keep a proper distance from other vehicles, and remain alert to changing traffic conditions.

Speeding, reckless driving, and failure to follow traffic rules can put motorists, passengers, and pedestrians at risk. However, the exact cause of this accident must be established through the police investigation.

The incident also highlights the importance of enforcing traffic rules consistently, particularly on roads shared by heavy vehicles and private cars.

Police officials call for action

The fatal accident prompted a response from senior police officials. According to the report, Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Abdul Karim took notice of the deaths and sought a report from the Lahore chief traffic officer.

The report also said the relevant officials were directed to pursue the arrest of the trailer driver and other staff members involved in the incident.

These measures are intended to establish responsibility and ensure that any proven violations are dealt with under the law. The investigation will help determine whether speeding, reckless driving, or other factors contributed to the collision.

Stronger traffic enforcement needed

The deaths have renewed calls for stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles and better enforcement of traffic rules in Lahore.

Regular inspections, action against reckless drivers, and compliance with speed limits can help reduce risks on busy roads. Authorities also need to investigate serious accidents promptly and share confirmed findings with the public.

At the same time, responsibility for an accident should be determined through evidence rather than assumptions made before an investigation is complete.
