Lahore Launches Rickshaw Training Program for Women
Women Receive Rickshaw Driving Training
The Lahore women rickshaw driving training programme was launched by Lahore Traffic Police in collaboration with a private university on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The 34 participants received driving lessons at training schools in Bahria Town and Manawan. The initiative aims to give women practical skills that could help them earn a living through professional driving.
The programme could provide another option for women who want to support themselves and contribute to their household income.
Traffic Police Highlights Financial Independence
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said the programme would help women earn money by driving rickshaws.
He explained that the initiative was not limited to teaching driving skills. It was also intended to help women become financially independent and build self-reliant lives.
According to Shirazi, women have an important role in the country’s social and economic development.
He added that Lahore Traffic Police would continue working to promote women’s empowerment, create employment opportunities and improve their financial stability.
More Opportunities for Women Drivers
The latest initiative builds on the department’s existing efforts to help women learn driving skills.
Lahore has 12 driving schools that provide car and scooter training for women. More than 16,000 women have learned to drive through these schools.

The new Lahore women rickshaw driving training initiative expands these efforts by introducing rickshaw driving as another possible source of income.
The Lahore women rickshaw drivers programme could offer women another route into professional driving. However, the supplied report does not confirm whether the trainees have received job offers or when they might begin working.
A Step Towards Women’s Empowerment
Learning to drive can give women greater mobility and access to different work opportunities. Professional driving may also help some women earn independently rather than rely entirely on family income.
The Lahore women rickshaw drivers initiative is part of wider efforts to encourage women’s participation in economic activities. Its long-term value will depend on whether trainees can use their new skills to find work and earn a stable income.
