LAHORE (Web Desk): Lahore is set for a major beautification drive ahead of Basant 2027, with authorities planning colourful lights, floral displays, cultural floats and heritage-themed decorations across the city.

Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has directed authorities to finalise arrangements for the event.

The plan will focus on highlighting Lahore’s cultural identity while improving the appearance of major roads, entry points and important heritage locations.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will carry out the planned beautification work across the city.

Major roads and heritage sites to be decorated

Under the plan, major roads and entry points in Lahore will receive special decorations for the festival. Heritage sites will also be included in the beautification drive. Authorities plan to use themed floats, colourful lighting and floral displays to create a festive atmosphere across the city.

The decorations will focus on Lahore’s traditional culture and heritage. The aim is to make the city more attractive for residents and visitors during the festival period.

Basant preparations reviewed at meeting

Bilal Yasin chaired a meeting to review preparations for Basant 2027.

PHA Director General Ahmad Usman Javed gave the minister a detailed briefing on the arrangements and proposed activities.

The meeting discussed ways to make Basant a major cultural event for the people of Lahore.

Officials were directed to continue work on the beautification and cultural plans so arrangements can be completed in time.

The authorities are also considering different locations across the city for cultural displays and special installations.

Flowers, kites and lights to shape festival theme

The festival’s visual theme will feature flowers, kites and colourful lights.

Bilal Yasin said these elements would help enhance Lahore’s beauty and create a festive environment. Special floats and exhibitions will also be placed at different locations.

The displays are expected to combine traditional Basant themes with Lahore’s historic cultural identity. The plan is aimed at giving residents a chance to experience the city’s heritage in a more colourful and engaging setting.

Walled City may host grand cultural event

The historic Walled City is also being considered for a major cultural event during Basant. Bilal Yasin said proposals had been sought for a grand event in the area.

The Walled City is known for its historic buildings, traditional markets and cultural heritage, making it a key location for showcasing Lahore’s identity. A cultural event there could bring together different elements of Lahore’s traditional lifestyle and history.

Further details about the proposed event have not yet been announced.

Lahori food and live performances planned

Traditional food will also be part of the planned celebrations. According to the proposal, food stalls featuring popular Lahori cuisine will be set up at selected locations. The festival will also feature live performances by musicians and artists.

These activities are intended to give residents more opportunities to enjoy local culture and entertainment. The combination of food, music, art and traditional displays is expected to make the event more attractive to families and other visitors.

PHA to lead citywide beautification work

The Parks and Horticulture Authority will be responsible for carrying out the beautification work across Lahore. The work will include floral displays, lighting, and other decorative installations. The authority will also work on arrangements for floats and exhibitions at different locations.

The wider plan is intended to give Lahore a consistent festive appearance rather than limiting decorations to a single venue. Major roads and important entry points will receive particular attention as part of the citywide effort.

Govt wants Basant to become a major cultural event

Bilal Yasin said the government wants Basant to develop into a major cultural event for citizens. The focus will remain on Lahore’s traditional culture and heritage. The government also wants the festival to provide healthy and quality entertainment for residents.

The beautification programme is therefore being planned alongside cultural activities rather than as a separate city decoration project. The approach could give Basant a wider cultural identity and connect the festival with Lahore’s historic character.

Lahore’s cultural identity at the centre

The festival plan places Lahore’s culture and heritage at the centre of the celebrations.

Officials want the decorations and activities to reflect the city’s traditional identity. This includes the use of flowers, kites, cultural displays, traditional food and live performances.

The plan also gives importance to historic areas, particularly the Walled City. The combination of these elements is intended to revive the city’s cultural vibrancy and provide residents with a festive experience.
